Compare the same finished result
Choose one exact item and inspect its grade, effects, enhancement state, class eligibility and restrictions. A cheaper item that you cannot use, or a crafted version that cannot be traded, is not an equivalent offer.
Read the recipe’s result and requirements. Some regional equipment, such as the May Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord additions, uses Transfer Crafting. Include any required source item in the calculation rather than pricing only the loose materials.

Calculate replacement cost and cash needed separately
Replacement cost is the value of every ingredient consumed plus any displayed recipe charge. Cash needed now includes only missing ingredients and that charge. Both figures matter: a craft can be affordable today while consuming materials worth more than the finished item.
For a material you can sell, use realistic net sale proceeds to measure what you give up by crafting. For bound materials, consider their next best use instead of assigning them a Market price they cannot realize.
Worked example: one guaranteed output
Suppose a hypothetical recipe consumes the components below. You already own the six units of Material A, and the equivalent finished item is offered for 1,200 Kina.
| Component | Illustrative calculation | Replacement cost |
|---|---|---|
| Material A | 6 × 150 Kina | 900 Kina |
| Material B | 2 × 100 Kina | 200 Kina |
| Recipe charge, if applicable | Shown amount in this example | 100 Kina |
| Total | 900 + 200 + 100 | 1,200 Kina |
What that example tells you
The craft requires only 300 Kina in new spending, but consumes 1,200 Kina in total value at the assumed prices. It has no replacement-cost advantage over buying the equivalent item for 1,200. Selling materials can also involve deductions, so use the actual sale preview before deciding whether selling and buying leaves you better off.
If a real recipe can fail or produces a variable result, this guaranteed-output example no longer establishes its expected cost. Read the displayed outcomes and any protection rules. Without those probabilities, set a material budget rather than assuming a guaranteed profitable result.
For resale, work backward from what you receive
First confirm that the output can be sold and that you have the relevant Market access. Compare the expected net sale proceeds with the full consumed-material cost. Include any charges shown by the actual transaction screen; no universal fee percentage is assumed here.
Check several equivalent listings before crafting multiple copies. Unsold stock is not profit, and a price observed for one item does not prove there is demand for an entire batch. Start with the quantity you can use or reasonably sell.
