Is Assassin a good fit?
Assassin offers a focused melee identity. Consider it if you enjoy choosing an approach, keeping track of a target at close range and reacting when a safe attack opportunity ends.
The advice here is editorial. The class theme does not establish a permanent damage bonus from attacking behind an enemy, a particular stealth duration or a current best rotation.
Solo: plan the exit as well as the approach
Before engaging, locate nearby enemies and leave yourself space to move. Start against one target, keep the camera wide enough to read its actions and learn when an attack prevents an immediate movement response.
Test any available approach or disengagement action somewhere safe. Check what happens to your position and target rather than assuming an animation moves you to a safe location. Read stealth restrictions in the current client before relying on it to skip enemies.
Group: commit to the agreed target
Follow the group target and avoid opening a separate fight while the party is preparing. Stay close enough to benefit from support without standing in danger simply to finish an attack sequence.
When a target relocates, look at its destination and the route to it before following. Let the encounter dictate your return to melee range. A short interruption is preferable to losing the rest of the fight to a preventable death.
First practice session
Build a repeatable approach-and-response routine.
- Check the range and movement behavior of each unlocked approach tool.
- Attack briefly, leave danger on purpose and re-establish the target.
- Practice keeping the enemy and surrounding space in view during close movement.
- Compare two attempts by avoidable hits and time spent unable to attack, not just the largest number on screen.
Build for usable attack time
When a suggested setup depends on a condition, confirm the exact wording in your current skill descriptions. Positional bonuses, control interactions and burst windows must be verified rather than inferred from the class fantasy.
Try one loadout change at a time. A setup you can execute while reading mechanics is a more useful baseline than an elaborate sequence you repeatedly abandon.
Compare nearby playstyles
Gladiator is the alternative for a broad-attack melee identity. Ranger is worth comparing if precision appeals to you but maintaining close distance does not.
